What made the reception enjoyable?
Alex and Sean thought so much about their guests’ experience, and their reception had a place for everyone. Want to lounge at a candlelit table, dripping with flowers, and sip wine while chatting with friends? There was a place for that! Would you rather enjoy the mild New Orleans evening while smoking a custom cigar under twinkle lights? Then just step into Il Mercato’s stunning courtyard. Prefer to perform Britney’s choreography from “I’m a Slave 4 U?” The dance floor was there and ready for you! I loved that there was something for everyone, and it was clear how much their guests enjoyed the beautiful evening.
Were there any unique traditions?
At this classic New Orleans wedding, the grooms treated their guests to a Second Line! One of my favorite activities to photograph, a Second Line is a sort of parade of your guests, led by a brass band, through the streets of New Orleans. Alex and Sean made sure every guest had a custom hankie to wave, and a glass full of champagne, and they filled the streets of the lower Garden District with laughter and joy while dancing through the streets.
What was your favorite detail from the wedding day?
It isn’t a single detail, but I loved the way Alex and Sean wove the New Orleans experience throughout. The greens and purples of Mardi Gras were subtly present everywhere, from their shirts and bowties, to the incredible florals created by Kim Starr Wise. For the Second Line, guests waved green handkerchiefs decorated with a gold fleur de lis. And of course, there was a giant King Cake!
