What made the wedding venue special?

I adore photographing weddings in our hometown, but every now and again the opportunity to travel somewhere new for a wedding arises and we just have to say yes!  McKay and Tyler planned their incredible destination wedding in the heart of the French Quarter and it was everything New Orleans wedding dreams are made of.  We began the day photographing bridal prep and wedding party portraits at the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon Street before traveling to Jackson Square and the iconic St. Louis Cathedral for their ceremony.  Afterward, their second line, led by the Kinfolk Brass Band wound through the streets of the French Quarter, again ending on Bourbon Street for their reception at the Royal Sonesta.  It was exactly what I imagined a New Orleans wedding to be and it was such a treat for our team to have the opportunity to be there documenting every moment!  

​​What was your favorite detail from the wedding day?

They planned SO many incredible details that it is impossible to pick a single favorite!  I adored their hand-painted watercolor maps of iconic New Orleans locations that were part of their save-the-dates and of course, their second line through the heart of the French Quarter!  Their reception was full of fun surprises also, with entertainers from Paper Doll Promotions hosting their cigar and bourbon bar overlooking the Royal Sonesta courtyard, and passing out LED items for the late-night party in the Jazz playhouse!

What made the reception enjoyable?

I loved that their reception was not hosted in a single ballroom space, but in three separate spaces that flowed into each other.  The strolling style reception allowed their guests the opportunity to mingle and enjoy all of their spaces in a way that felt both very elegant and unhurried.  My favorite element though, was that each space had its own distinct and different aesthetic!  From classic elegance in the Fleur de Lis room, to relaxed southern garden in the courtyard, to moody New Orleans speakeasy in the Jazz Playhouse, each space was perfectly designed!
