Boudoir sessions are one of my favorite types of sessions we photograph at AKP. There are a few misconceptions about what exactly a boudoir session is though, so I am here to clear those up because they aren’t as scary as they seem! Whether it is a wedding collection add-on session as a gift for your significant other or standalone session just for yourself, boudoir sessions are always fabulous, fun, and completely gorgeous!
I don’t have a perfect body and am really insecure about [fill in the blank]. Can I still do a boudoir session?
YES!! Everyone has their own insecurities, I promise! Our goal is to help you look and FEEL your best during your session, and we will use posing and lighting techniques that flatter your body in the best way possible! Talk with your photographer about anything you might be feeling insecure about prior to your session. Sometimes a simple outfit suggestion or incorporating certain poses is the answer!
When and where will my session take place?
Sessions take place in our downtown Pensacola studio M-F 9-5. It is a gorgeous, private space where we can accommodate a wide range of different looks. From bright and flirty to dramatic and sexy, we can make it happen! If you are planning to surprise your significant other with photos from your session, we recommend scheduling your session a minimum of 4 weeks before you need the photos in hand.
What should I wear or not wear? Do I need to bring anything with me?
This is based entirely on YOUR personal comfort level. Some clients prefer to remain a little more covered up, while others might want to create a set of more risque images. Generally speaking, we recommend bringing 2-3 outfits that you love and feel amazing in!! If you are uncomfortable in what you are wearing (or not wearing) it will show in your face and posture. Conversely, if you feel great it will also show!
Bodysuits are a fantastic option if you’re a little insecure about your midsection and a fabulous pair of heels can work magic on your derriere. If you are planning to use your photos as a wedding gift, it can be pretty to incorporate bridal accessories like your veil and garters. It can also be fun to include jerseys/t-shirts/hats from your significant other’s favorite team or band, and even a simple white sheet can be stunning. There are no rules, so again, talk with your photographer ahead of time to discuss what feels right to you!
Do I need to have my hair and makeup professionally done?
Of course not, but why not make a day out of it and pamper yourself? Fresh hair and a manicure always puts a little extra pep in my step, and it’s tough not to feel fabulous when you’re wearing false eyelashes! If you are planning to do hair or makeup trials prior to your wedding day, scheduling them on the same date as your boudoir session is a great way to get some extra mileage out of that glam look!
Will you retouch my pictures?
Yes!! All of your photos will be edited for color and exposure consistency. Additionally, we give boudoir photos a little extra retouching and will remove obvious blemishes, and smooth everything out a bit. We won’t make you look unnatural, just a polished version of your best self!
Will anyone else see my pictures?
Your privacy is of utmost importance to us. Galleries are password protected and the link is shared ONLY with you. We will never post or share your photos with anyone other than you without your permission!
What is the best way to gift my pictures to my significant other?
If your intention is to gift the photos to someone special, we recommend including one of our amazing boudoir albums in your collection!! They come in a wide range of sizes, lengths, cover options (including velvet, my personal favorite!!) and are absolutely stunning!
I am super nervous about my session. Is this really going to be fun?
Of course you are! Most of our clients are somewhat nervous at first (who wouldn’t be?!), but our comfortable, inviting studio space and team of professionals make it easy to relax and enjoy the process. When you arrive for your session we will put on some fun music, pop the champagne, look through any outfits and props you’ve brought, and have yes, have FUN creating a gorgeous set of images for you!!
