This weekend, I had the honor to photograph Marileigh and Austin’s Hilton Pensacola Beach wedding. I could write about Marileigh’s infectious laugh, or the love that her bridesmaids obviously felt for her. I could tell you about the stunning flowers, which felt like fresh wildflowers and were adorned with cascading ivy. There was Austin, who was laidback and funny and burned up the dance floor. Marileigh’s gown was a classic, a crepe sheath with a crystal-beaded back – and her mother’s vintage veil was stunning and meaningful.
But instead, I’m going to tell you about the thing that Marileigh squeal with excitement. Her gift to Austin.
Multiple times throughout the morning, Marileigh checked to make sure we had her gift to Austin (we often hold onto these so we can make sure the groom opens it while we are taking photos of the moment). After a few mentions, I asked her what was inside the box, and she was SO SO excited to share. Austin is apparently an avid Eagles fan, but has never been to a game in their stadium. Marileigh surprised him with tickets to the Eagles-Cowboys game, and wrapped them up in a box so he had no idea what to expect. I really think that of all the events and photos that day, the one that was most important was seeing Austin’s reaction – and I think that’s just the sweetest. Her intention to surprise him with something fantastic – and her desire to see his response through the photos – made me realize how completely lovely it was that their relationship with one another was way more important than the details of the wedding. (By the way, the wedding was STUNNING).
