The last month has been full of engagement sessions for me, and it has been a blast. I’ve photographed in marinas and gardens, amidst Mardi Gras parades and inside whiskey bars, on historic streets and lovely front porches. Danielle and Ben wanted to spend their session in downtown Fairhope, Alabama, which is one of my very favorite spots on the Gulf Coast. This little town is brimming with color and character. It manages to be artsy and urban, all the while maintaining an incredible Southern gentility that is the perfect backdrop for couples in love. Instead of strolling through the city streets, Danielle and Ben chose to use the public parks (which are pretty stinking gorgeous, in my opinion). There were trails and trees (both skinny pines and towering live oaks), a duck pond (with ducks who put on a show for us), a sweet white bridge straight out of a Robert Frost poem, and giant azaleas, bursting with hot pink blooms (in February you guys – this is ridiculous). I tried to incorporate all of these elements into their session, really wanting to deliver to them a set of photos that felt like Fairhope, the South, Alabama, and most importantly, HOME. Danielle seriously looks like a model straight out of a magazine (right?!), and Ben was charming and willing to do anything to make his bride happy. We even had a chance to take a few photos in the exact spot where Ben proposed several months ago, which adds such sweet meaning.
