What made the wedding venue special?
“For years, I’ve been wanting to photograph a wedding at the Richards DAR House in downtown Mobile – this is the venue where my husband’s parents were married years ago! Well before I lived on the Gulf Coast, I remember seeing their wedding photos and loving the stately tradition that the DAR House exudes – white lace ironwork on all the porches, solid brick construction, columns, and of course, giant live oaks protecting the entire property. So, when Hannah and Cody told me they chose the DAR House, I was thrilled. And sure enough, the house lived up to my expectation (and then some!). They used the interior for one of their food stations, so their guests enjoyed an incredible spread by Naman’s standing under stunning chandeliers and beautifully-restored artwork. The courtyard and garden outdoors was shaded by gigantic trees, and lanterns and market lights switched on as the sun set.”
How did the parents react upon seeing their daughter?
“Hannah chose to do a First Look with her dad, which pretty much made everyone cry. He stood with his back turned, awaiting her. After a deep breath, Hannah asked him to turn, and they both promptly broke down. It was an absolutely lovely and genuine moment.”
What made the reception enjoyable?
“I love al fresco receptions like the one at Hannah and Cody’s Mobile wedding! Their use of both the indoor and outdoor space at the Richards DAR House was perfect. The band was set up in the courtyard, so guests who wanted to dance could boogie the evening away, cooled by the breeze and lit by the market lights hanging overheard. There were tables scattered throughout the courtyard, so those who were taking a break from dancing could comfortably relax and make conversation, or stroll through the garden for some privacy. The home was open and full of comfortable (and gorgeous!) seating options for those who desired some more warmth. Overall, this made for a party that was incredibly guest-centric and allowed everyone to have a great time, regardless of age!”
Was there unique transportation?
“After their grand exit (where their guests waved silver shakers and cheered!), the bride and groom boarded a retro pedicab, decorated with white balloons. It was so fun watching their guests’ reactions to seeing this non-traditional transportation, and I loved watching Hannah and Cody wave as the rode away down the street!”
